With thermal weed control a torch with a heat shock is administered to weeds, causing the cell walls to crack and the plant to die. When the flames of approximately 70 to 80 °C of the thermal weed killer touch the plant, the water will evaporate from the plant and the proteins from the cells will coagulate. The leaves of the plants will slacken in a few hours’ time, dry out and make the plant die or weaken.
Thermal weed burners with gas can be burners with a concentrated flame, with infrared rays without flash or they can emit steam.
All sizes of propane bottles can be used for this purpose but in practice because of the ease of use usually a bottle of 10.5 kg is used.
IJsfabriek Strombeek provides both the necessary propane gas as well as the burners.
