Oxygen (O₂)

Oxygen is by far the most frequently used medical gas that is delivered both in cylinders as well as supplied in bulk to hospitals. With the bulk deliveries, the distribution network is refuelled without interruption.

With the ever-increasing demand for home care, IJsfabriek Strombeek also offers a wide range of oxygen cylinders-to-size. These are provided through pharmacists to patients with respiratory problems or pulmonary disease.

Nitrogen (N₂)

Liquid Nitrogen has its application mostly in the Cryosurgery for the treatment of among others warts, skin and liver tumours.

Laughing gas (N₂O)

Laughing gas is an efficient tool in anaesthesia. IJsfabriek Strombeek is the only producer of laughing gas in Belgium and therefore supplies the bulk of the Belgian hospitals.

Because of the use of laughing gas as a medicinal product the production is subject to a strict regulation which is required by law to ensure the safety of patients and users.

Carbon dioxide (CO₂)

Carbon dioxide is used in the medical world to facilitate laparoscopic research. The abdominal cavity is a little inflated by means of carbon dioxide so that visibility inside somewhat improves making the work in the abdominal cavity easier.

Other gasses

Other gases such as argon and helium are used as laser gas for medical applications such as ophthalmic surgery, vein dilation and the removal of tattoos.
